Skyway

My time in Minneapolis continues.  I'm learning to navigate the Skyway.  The skyway system is extensive and I can see why it would be even better in winter.  I can go so many places without going outside!  I'm learning where the most accessible doors are.  Love the ones with automatic openers.  Some doors are hard to get through in a wheelchair, but I've found people can be helpful.

When I'm at home, there is little/nothing within safe walking(rolling) distance from home. Since I don't drive, that means I'm mostly isolated or dependant on others.. Maybe I should experiment more with public transportation, although my experiences with that didn't work well in the past.  Anyway, my eyes have been opened to new possibilities.

It's not surprising to see so many other people who use wheelchairs out and about downtown.  It's a much more convenient and independent lifestyle than living in the suburbs!  I've even observed 2 employees at Target in wheelchairs.  The freedom gained by curb cuts, the Skyway, and good public transportation is incredible.

Minneapolis

I'm having a great time visiting my daughter and her fiance in Minneapolis-.  From their downtown apartment, I'm discovering a whole new world of accessibility. With my new electric wheelchair I can get to many places either from the skyway or the sidewalk. A wonderful library, the post office, groceries and shops and restaurants.  Public transportation - bus and light rail - are accessible if I want to venture further. I'm lovin' it!
